Steve Levow:
30 years of riding experience has brought me to 2009 and what will be my first year in the Expert ranks of the Championship Cup Series and American Sportbike Racing Association. In 2008, I have enjoyed success on and off the track. I won races and regularly ran at the front of the Amateur pack. I am confident that there is more speed to be found and I welcome the challenges that await me in 2009.
Off the track, I am very proud of the relationship that I have built with the Fisher House. A charitable organization that provides no-cost lodging for veteran's families, the Fisher House enables families to be with their loved ones during treatment and recovery from their battle-field injuries. Patriot Racing has established itself as a vehicle to generate tax-deductable donations to the Fisher House. As a former-Marine and veteran of the Iraq War, the Fisher House mission is one that I believe strongly in.
For 2009, I am looking to expand this relationship and put together a hospitality program through which we will host veterans and their families who are utilizing the services of the Fisher House. My hope is that by getting them out of the hospital and rehab centers for a day, my team can play a positive role in their recovery.
Looking downrange a bit farther my son, Jake is already showing signs that this passion is somehow hereditary. If racing proves to be something that he wants to pursue, I can see motocross and flat-track races coming onto the schedule in the not too distant future. I am very lucky and appreciative of my step-dad, John Porter, for exposing me to this incredible sport and I am looking forward to sharing this adventure with my son.
John Porter:
Motorcycle racing is a passion I have enjoyed for the past 44 years. I have been involved in a diversity of racing motor sports for over four decades. As a 62 year old racer competing in CCS Mid-Atlantic region racing, I am still competitive in various lightweight classes on a Suzuki SV650. My first experiences took place on the scramble and dirt tracks of Maryland, Virginia and Pennsylvania. In an era that had yet to produce purpose built race bikes, I started on a Yamaha YG1 80cc competing in the 125 class against the Harley Hummers.I obtained my first professional AMA license in 1967 and progressed to an Expert license in 1969. I started off 1970 with a top 20 finish in the Daytona 200 and then proceeded to run in every short track, 1/2 mile, TT, and roadrace we could get to and continued racing full time through 1973. Returning to roadracing in 1975, I campaigned a Kawasaki Z900 with ERA capturing a class championship in the Open Cafe class and finishing the season with a podium third at Daytona in the championship final. The 1980s saw a return to dirt in motocross and cross-country and a one year stint roadracing a BSA B50 500 Single.
Roadracing will continue to dominate our race plans in the near future until the next generation, my grandson Jake who is now all of three, decides to throw a leg over and grab a handful. Five decades and counting, it just doesn't get much better than this.
Direct Support
Steve McQueen once said that, "Racing is life. Everything else is just waiting." Until I started racing, I didn't quite understand what he meant. Now, I get it. The mental fortitude and commitment to push your body and your machine to the limit. Relishing the times you get it right and the quiet introspection that comes when you get it wrong. The relentless pursuit of better, smoother and faster. It's honesty, in that your actions and results on the track are the final measure of your success. Racing is life.We are committed to performing at the best of our abilities on and off the track.
We are committed to supporting the Fisher House our veterans and their families.
